Personal Homepage of: David Francis
This is my personal website. It is a place where I write what I want for people who care to read. It's not private per se, but it is of little use to anyone other than myself, those I care about or those who care about me. You're more than welcome to read the public parts of the site, but don't be surprised if you find yourself scratching your head and wondering, "Who cares?"

About David Francis?
Updated July 4th 2010
About me? Father of two grown boys men, husband
for 26 years and a small business owner. My background includes military
(maintenance, public affairs, flight mech., honor guard and more), sales,
marketing, web development, travel agent and most recently, magazine publisher.
Carrie and I are enjoying life more than ever and are proud to have created a
company that is making a difference in so many lives.
The magazine
Created in March 2007, SOKY Happenings has become a reliable source for what's
happening in south central Kentucky. Carrie and I wanted to start a business
that would be profitable of course, but we also wanted to help make our
community a better place to live, work and play. From concept to creation - it
took about 2 months to publish our first issue. We have grown from our first
issue at 36 pages to as many as 92 pages thanks to the generous support of our
sponsors, more than 40 writers and all of our readers.
The web development company
I have been was a full time webmaster from 1998
through 2007 and have enjoyed it very much. I have
developed websites for the government, large international church groups and all
points in-between. I use Microsoft Active Server Pages for my programming and host
all my sites on Windows Servers. I never saw myself as the kind of person who could
sit a computer for hours and hours, but web development is so diverse that it holds
my attention. So many things need to be considered, new skills learned and opportunities
explored that I love this line of work.
Travel Too? Yep!
I've been all over this big blue marble serving in the Air Force. A few years ago,
I "encouraged" Carrie to take a job as a travel agent, we ended up opening a local
travel agency shortly thereafter. When that didn't go as planned, we sold our half
to the 'partners' who were in it with us.
It didn't take long for us to miss the business. We also had a number of friends ask us to get back in the business so we could book their travel. I created a simple affiliate website and it was good. We even made some money from unknown people clicking on our links.
Carried Away Vacations, while entirely legal and viable has been in hobby status since we started it. While I have done everything necessary to make it much more than a hobby, our efforts to bring the magazine to press have prevented us from concentrating on this business.
